PC Interfacing via Ethernet

Connecting external devices to your PC via your local network is not as difficult as it seems. In a series of articles written for Electronics World (May & June 2001), Eddie Insam explains how it all works, what you need to know and describes a development device that can get you going in no time at all.

Electronics World is a RBI magazine. Copies of the article can be obtained from Electronics World, Quadrant House, Sutton Surrey SM25AS

The first series of articles describes a pre-programmed PIC device that can be used both as a development tool and for use in projects. A copy of the article in HTML format can be seen here. A fuller description of the Controller's command set, and its operation can be found here. The hex code for the PIC device is also available for download for private and non commercial applications only. Please email edinsam@eix.co.uk for more information.

A second article describes how you can fit a complete web server in your own home and use it to control heaters, lights and sense temperatures. All controlled from the web browser in your PC. The article, in HTML format can be found from our main site.
